Japanese rap fans have a new favourite voice, and it was born in Accra. C6ix dropped the video for “Karikari” (狩狩, “hunt, hunt”) on 30 October, and the Japanese comment section went straight to the point: 「c6ixの日本語まじですき」 (“I seriously love C6ix’s Japanese”), 「トラックオシャレや」 (“the track is so stylish”), and one fan already planning to 「狩狩いっちゃう」, go hunting. Two minutes long, produced by kodru and shot by Quoami, it is a cold, smoky snow-day video with a beat that slides between trap and Afro bounce, and it had more than 8,000 views in its first two days. Small numbers for now, big energy: exactly the kind of track WorldWidePop puts in front of the world early.
Ghana to Fussa
C6ix was born in Accra, Ghana, in 2003 and came to Japan at 15 without a word of Japanese, as the rapper told KAI-YOU. Today C6ix is based in Fussa, in western Tokyo, and still studies Japanese every day to write the lyrics. The style started out as Afrobeat, then grew into what Japan now knows: hip-hop with Afro sounds underneath and a broken, playful Japanese on top that nobody else sounds like.
“Okazaki8”, the breakout
The song that put C6ix on the map is “Okazaki8” (岡崎8番), released in August 2025. Its hook, 「岡崎8番さゆください」, went everywhere, and the song passed three million plays on TikTok and YouTube. The story behind it is real: during a live-in driving school course, detectives from Aichi turned up, and C6ix spent 43 days in custody. What came out of it was a message the rapper repeats in the interview: 「人間みんな同じ」, everyone is the same; nobody is above, nobody is below.
The album and the crew
Japan’s top names noticed fast. C6ix has been invited onto tracks by ¥ellow Bucks and by PUNPEE & BIM, and appears with C.O.S.A. on Benjazzy and Bonbero’s new “素通り”. The album 『岡崎8番』 (Okazaki8ban), out since 16 September, carries 12 tracks with Jinmenusagi (“Kyukyusha”), ACE COOL (“MatamataSuuta”), BIM and kZm (“Japapiano”), Bonbero (“Tokube”) and BIM again on “Takusan Eye Clear II”. “Karikari” is the newest look at that record. Press play: this is Japanese rap with Ghana in its heartbeat.
