The rotation on local headphones and streaming tallies right now is dominated by a tight circle of collaborative rap tracks. On domestic Apple Music charts, Rebellions Bhutan holds down premier placement alongside names like T rap, ALIEN, JD, Zimba, and Dedrik, propelled by tracks like “HING LAY RA” and “SAYA.” Rebellions Bhutan set the pace early in 2026 with “Ka Mitshu,” pulling in T Rap, Kado, and Zimba, then followed it with “Lok Lok Chi,” a track linking T Rap, Putulu, Mame Alu, and Your boy Zimba. On local charts and Spotify monthly listener tallies, Rebellions Bhutan sits directly beside mainstream heavy-hitters like Sonam Wangchen, The smOGs, Shacha Menla, and Karma Euden Norbu, alongside charting staples caens, Ugay, D.N.R, and TheLungten.

What was once confined to niche listening circles has pushed straight into regular feeds and daily playlists. Early foundations came from artists like Kinley Wangchuk, among the first domestic rappers to make original tracks and land features in domestic feature films, and CHOGO, who logged a catalog of over 30 songs. In Thimphu, setups like Bhutan Music Studio turn out work across hip-hop, rap, rock, pop, country, and classical, while production units like Druk Melo Production and BHT Records back cuts like Cutie’s “KENCHOSUM.”

The Mid-Year Singles

A rapid sequence of video drops across mid-2026 captures where the momentum is headed. In August 2026, ZHEN GA GHI landed with the official music video for “YOTSIG.” That same month saw the arrival of “Pagal Pagal,” a joint release pairing Wangden Sherpa and Sushant Ghimire, assisted by Melina Rai and Roneeshma Shrestha. Weeks earlier, in July 2026, DOWN DOWN DOWN delivered the visual for “YUGRANG,” while ICE dropped “GME” and HEMA released “Acho DJ ft. KP.”

The collaborative energy connecting Sherpa and Ghimire draws on deep individual catalogs built across the border in Kathmandu. Ghimire, born November 15, 1995, got his start early singing Raju Lama’s “Timi Lai Dekhera” at a third-grade Parents’ Day showcase. By late 2017, he was balancing bar gigs and cover sets with a full-time job at a Chinese construction company. He made his official debut in 2020 with the Mantra Guitars collaboration “Pari,” followed by singles like “Hidey Ma Ta,” “Ajambari Maya,” and “Ukali Orali,” before “Zindagi Sarara” turned him into a household name. Incorporating elements of qawali and Bollywood pop into his songwriting, Ghimire counts over 190,000 monthly Spotify listeners and seventy thousand YouTube subscribers, writing and composing numbers like “Bujhau Malai,” “Mann Chari,” “Chitthi – The Last Letter,” and “Eklo Mann.” His output remained prolific heading into 2026 with “Baaki Thorai Jiwan” alongside “Pagal Pagal.”

Wangden Sherpa came up through a parallel trajectory. After picking up the guitar at 13, he shared covers online before stepping out with the nine-track debut studio album Tangled in You on February 11, 2022. Working with Chuck Leah and Evan Bakke, the project blended Nepali and English, launched via YouTube and Spotify by lead singles “Tadhiera” and the title cut. Sherpa turned that initial pop footprint into massive online numbers: his 2024 single “Tadha Tadha,” featuring Prajina, racked up over 1.1 million views in less than three weeks, eventually crossing 5.1 million views by early 2025. Between cuts like “Timi Nacha Na,” “Ali Ali,” “Jun Na Heri,” “Maharani,” and “Narisau Aja”—written and performed with cast members Prajita Waiba and Prabhas Wangbo—Sherpa has engineered viral traction across social video platforms.

Groundwork and Breakouts

Behind the rapid clip of contemporary singles stands the enduring blueprint laid down by Kezang Dorji. Born in Samdrup Jongkhar in 1989 and working in rap and B-Pop since 2011, Dorji emerged out of the college outfit Sherubtse Rockers with the release Sherubtse Rockers Vol#1 Make A Difference. Local imprint M-Studio stepped in to produce his material in 2013 and remained his home base.

In autumn 2016, Dorji became the first solo artist to mount a domestic tour, taking The Kuzuzangpo Tour across nine districts and twelve venues between September 17 and October 22. The 16 tracks gathered from that run formed 2017’s The Kuzuzangpo Album, distributed directly to fans on USB drives. He followed that in 2019 by taking The Kuzuzangpo Tour 2 to all 20 districts, issuing Kuzuzangpo 2 digitally before releasing it physically on an 8GB USB drive in 2021. Even as younger crews pack domestic charts, Dorji’s SoundCloud channel has continued feeding fans cuts like “Asham Kharang Bokpi,” “Druk Gyalkhab,” “Ka Mitsu – Unstoppable,” “Bow Bow,” and “Jungkhu Mi.”

When local pop does cross outside borders, it happens through distinct lanes. Singer-songwriter and producer Nyendra caught domestic attention when his 2024 single “Oh No!” went viral on TikTok, introducing his mix of acoustic pop, folk-pop, and R&B. After collaborating with Lungten Wangchuk on “Lhayi Semo,” Nyendra took first place in Rhythm of Bhutan, securing selection to represent Bhutan at Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026.

Back on the ground, the scene stays rooted in the work coming out of Thimphu’s studios and daily online drops, anchored right now by Rebellions Bhutan’s run with “Ka Mitshu.”
